The bill on the legalization and regulation of sports betting has recently come into force in another US state. Thus, West Virginia is already the sixth US state where sports betting is legalized (including Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Mississippi and Pennsylvania).

The bill which initially caused considerable debate was signed into law by the Governor of West Virginia, James Justice, last Friday. Marketing agency, Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, conducted a study of the sports betting market, thus played an active part in the process of legalization.

In October 2017, West Virginia Lottery involved this research company to analyze the market and discover how the legalization of sports betting would affect the overall state economy. Due to the provided data, on 10 March 2018, the bill on legalization and regulation of sports betting in West Virginia was passed.

Consequently, WV Lottery Commission was appointed to regulate betting market. The estimated volume of the legalized sports betting is around $1 billion for the first year.

Currently, the USA continues to debate on the abolition of the federal law PASPA that prohibits the betting on sports. Eilers & Krejcik Gaming says that the decisive actions of West Virginia will surely lead to a launch of regulated sports betting in the US.
